Cutting for Stone...

I was about to freak out about not having enough books to read in Cancun when I saw Borders as I was riding up the escalator at the Dulles airport. I remember I mumbled under my breath, "oh, I love Borders." When did I become so nerdy. I love bookstores and books and I consider wanting real books (made with trees) as one of my biggest environmental sins. I try to lessen my sins by lending books to other people. And I have actually been mentally prepping myself to get one of those Kindle things but I am not yet ready to abandon paper books yet...really, not yet. At Borders, I found a book by Abraham Verghese, titled "Cutting for Stone." The beautiful photo on the cover and the word "National Bestseller" made it hard for me to put it down...it just has to be good.

I'm not done..but so far, the book is very very interesting, emotional, sad...it is about family, about love, about betrayal, about forgiveness, about bonds that can never be broken...

There's a quote in it that I really like...
"The key to your happiness is to own your slippers, own who you are, own how you look, own your family, own the talents you have, and own the ones you don't. If you keep saying your slippers aren't yours, then you'll die searching, you'll die bitter, always feeling you were promised more. Not only our actions, but also our omissions, become our destiny."

Good stuff. Time to cook and clean, maybe blog more later..photos from Cancun!
