LOVE.YOUR.PLANET

This is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! I don’t want to be preachy preachy BUT I have to say this: everyday should be Earth Day because we use resources from the planet and everything that Mother Earth goes through affects us in every way. If loving the planet isn’t enough to motivate you to protect and love your planet, then find it within your selfish gene to do so!
As a “treehugger,” I am not sad that other people don’t love trees the way I do. I am most sad that a lot of people don’t recognize where we get our material goods from and where we get our most basic necessities (clean air and clean water comes to mind). Like all relationships, we tend to take things for granted especially when our “partner” continues to give and give. Let’s not do that until everything falls apart…because one day, he/she/planet will be tired of it…there’s a limit to EVERYTHING.
We’ve made a lot of progress in learning about our Earth, about the impacts of everything we do and we are starting to do something about these impacts, but we need to do more and it starts with everyday life. Next time you go outside, marvel at our environment…the beautiful colors of our sunrises/sunset, sparkling ocean water, wild flowers and sprouting trees, clean water that comes out of your faucets, and the list goes on. Take a moment to appreciate all the things you’ve taken for granted…and then maybe it’ll dawn on you that you should do something every day to minimize your impact, so that we can all continue to enjoy all that the Earth has given to us…and if we are lucky, our kids and grandkids will get to enjoy it too.
Recycle please. Stop buying bottles of water. Unplug your electronics if you’re not using it. Buy local. Eat vegetables that are in season. Choose sustainable fish! No shark fin soup! Encourage others around you to love the planet! As cliché as it sounds, it really DOES start with you AND every little action DOES count.
:)
